Hattha Kasekar Limited (HKL), one of Cambodia’s largest microfinance institutions (MFI), plans to install 15 ATM machines to service its increasing number of depositors.
It becomes the second MFI after Prasac in Cambodia to provide this service to its clients.
Hout Ieng Tong, general manager of HKL, told the Post that the institution will install 15 ATM machines in Phnom Penh and some other provinces.
“We will put seven to eight ATMs in some branches in Phnom Penh and the rest to other provinces,” he said.
“Of course, it is very expensive and pushes our operation costs a bit higher.
But at the same time, we want to provide more convenient services to our customers.
“And we will install 20 other ATMs in all branches to cover 24 provinces and cities nationwide next year,” he said.
HKL’s data showed ending September, outstanding loans rose by about 35 per cent to US$95 million to 71,194 borrowers. The deposits were $50 million from 101,693 depositors.
Hout Ieng Tong said that all of the AMT machines were bought from Germany.
The customers can withdraw, transfer and deposit money.
They can top up their mobile phone cards at the machines as well.
In early August, Prasac officially installed 30 ATMs, of which 15 machines were installed in Phnom Penh and 15 in the provinces.
The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) is a non-governmental and profession institution aiming to ensure the prosperity and sustainability of the Cambodian microfinance sector.
CMA plays a vital role in creating local and international networks as well as seeking equity and loan funds, new technologies and overseeing conflict resolution between microfinance operators.
